Hagman will succeed Svein Steimler who will step down on March 31, 2023. Steimler will remain a special advisor to the company to ease the leadership transition. Steimler will also remain involved in NYK affairs through his role as a board member through March 31, 2024 and retain his post as Chief Executive of the European District Branch, Japanese Shipowners’ Association at the International Chamber of Shipping until July 2023.

Steimler joined NYK Group in 1996 and has been an Executive Officer at parent company NYK Line in Tokyo for nine years.

Hagman takes up the reins at the regional management company of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (“NYK Line”) for Europe & Africa, building on a career spanning the car carrier market. Since starting his maritime career in 1994, Hagman has served as CEO of EUKOR, Hoegh Autoliners and most recently Stena Rederi, a position he stepped down from in 2022.

“Taking this opportunity, NYK Line and the NGE Board would like to thank Svein Steimler for his outstanding leadership, commitment, and significant contribution to NGE and the NYK group as President and CEO of NGE,” the company said in a press release.
