Container shipping newbuilding orders continue to flood in with Wan Hai the latest with it contracting its largest vessels yet at Korean yards.

The Taiwanese company has ordered up to eight 16,000 teu methanol-ready container ships split equally between HD Hyundai Samho and Samsung Heavy Industries.

The average price per vessel is $186-$204 million. 

In August, Wan Hai signed up to 20 methanol dual-fuel vessels, including twelve firm and four optional 8,000 teu box ships with Taiwan-based shipbuilder CSBC Corporation, and four 8,700 teu dual-fuel newbuilds at HD Hyundai Samho as a part of its fleet optimization programme. 

Wanhai Lines currently operates a fleet of 123 vessels of 530,000 teu. The company is expecting to add eight newbuildings into its fleet this and next year.
