Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has decided to suspend the Los Angeles port call from its Santana service due to the current congestion in California, adding a call at the Port of Tacoma.

MSC said that Tacoma has become the most fluid of all US west coast ports, as it offers great rail connections into the Midwest destinations with much faster cargo delivery compared to other gateways. Additionally, Tacoma is a good alternative to Seattle when it comes to local Pacific Northwest cargo, according to the Swiss-based carrier.

The new service rotation of the Santana service will be Yantian – Shanghai – Tacoma – Yantian.

The first eastbound and westbound omissions of Los Angeles are as follows:

  • Week 17 – omission eastbound. Omitting Los Angeles call for MSC Nerissa, voyage UX118A, ETA Los Angeles, 22 May.
  • Week 20 – omission westbound. Omitting Los Angeles call for MSC NERISSA, voyage UX120R, ETA Los Angeles 22 May.
