MSC Line

Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC) is currently the second-largest container shipping company in the world. As of the end of September 2010, MSC was operating 423 container vessels with an intake capacity of 1,176,000 TEU’s.

The Geneva, Switzerland based company operates in all major ports of the world. MSC serves 270 ports worldwide on the six continents. 350 local offices, employing a total of 29,000 people, provide an agency network representation. Vessels with up to a capacity of 14,000 TEU, including one of the largest container ships, the MSC Daniela. The company remains independent and wholly owned by its president Aponte and his family.

According to Alphaliner, Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) Switzerland-Italy is embarking on developing strong, overshadowing the Group container shipping Maersk World No. 1 in 2017.

MSC has recently put 19,000 TEU newbuilding vessels, bringing its orders to more than 610,000 TEU. ” China’s Bank of Communications Financial Leasing Co (BCLC – Bank Company’s financial leasing China) signed orders 3 ships of 19,000 teu at Daewoo (DSME), with the provision for long-term lease with the MSC, additional similar to 3 units placed in July last year. Maersk has not placed any new orders in three years, while the MSC orders 3 times the size of Maersk Line. Orders and options combined with commitments for 34 new ships anchor-TEU Panamax 8800-9400, all delivered in 2015 and 2016, can strengthen MSC’s fleet from 2.5 million TEU to 3 million TEUs by the end of 2016. “the expansion of large capacity may allow MSC pass Maersk, currently operates a fleet of 2.77 million TEUs.
